Sandgate Tennis Aces 1 Point Slam & Solinco Demo Day!

For those who missed the action, our Sandgate Tennis 1 Point Slam was a smashing success!

After hosting an offical AO 1 Point Slam event as part of the Australian Open last December, we got hooked on this super-fun format and decided to hold one of our own!  On 22 February 2026, we held our very first Sandgate Tennis 1 Point Slam alongside an exciting demo day featuring the cutting-edge Solinco Sports racquets and strings (www.solincosports.com.au).

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to support the event and made the day such a success!  The tournament was a lot of fun, with the added pressure of 1 Point Slam’s unique challenge: only one serve per point!  Every player also got the chance to use one of the many high-performance Solinco demo racquets on hand during the event.

A big congratulations to our champion, Fausto Kotama! Fausto was undoubtedly the most consistent player in the event, earning him a well-deserved victory – plus a brand new Solinco racquet! Here is Fausto proudly receiving his new racquet from Sue and Brian, the passionate team who distribute and represent Solinco Sports in Australia and New Zealand.

Solinco is a rising brand in Australia, and is making waves with their new range of racquets!  Already well known for their internationally renowned strings, they are a relatively new player in the racquet scene so we were very excited to have the opportunity to try out their exciting new range.

Sandgate Tennis are proud supporters and stockists of Solinco, and we have a number of demo racquets in stock for you to try.  Just give us a call on 0423 066 022 and arrange a hit, and experience an innovative Solinco racquet firsthand.

You’re Invited! 1-Point Slam Tournament & Solinco Demo Day on Sunday, 22nd of Feb!

A brand new Solinco racquet is up for grabs at our very own Sandgate Tennis 1-Point Slam Tournament, to be held alongside our Solinco Equipment Demo Day!

We’re excited to invite you to a fun, fast-paced day at the club packed with quick points, great gear, and plenty of action.

📅 Date: Sunday, 22nd February 2026
Time: 9.30am start
📍 Where: Sandgate Tennis Centre, 83 Board Street, Deagon 4017

All members are welcome – Come and have some fun at the Slam event, warm up, test racquets, or just enjoy the atmosphere! Coffee and cold drinks available and good company guaranteed.

Please RSVP by Wednesday 18th February to specialevents@sandgatetennis.com.au or by phone to 0423 066 022 so we can finalise draws and demo numbers.

🎾 1-Point Slam Tournament
Every player gets just one shot: win the point to progress to the next round, miss it and you’re out! There’s fast rallies, big pressure, and lots of laughs. It’s great fun for players of all ages and abilities!

🎾 Solinco Equipment Demo Day
Try the full range of Solinco racquets, ask questions, and put them through their paces. Solinco are also makers of some of the best racquet strings in the world, used by elite players all over the world. Talk to the experts and get advice on what is best for your game. In the meantime visit their A/NZ web site at https://www.solincosports.com.au.

🎾 Special Equipment Discounts
Any Solinco equipment purchased or ordered and paid for on the day (by club members) will be available at a huge discount. Come and check it out.

🏆 Playing Conditions & Prizes – 1-Point Slam

  • All players must be club members (join on the day for just $7.50).
  • Entry to the event is free once you are a member.
  • All players must use a Solinco racquet (demo racquets provided).
  • One serve only – no second serves if you fault.
  • Social courts available for warm-up and for trying any demo racquets.
  • 🏆 Overall winner takes home a BRAND NEW Solinco racquet of your choice.

We’d love to see you there for what promises to be a fantastic day on (and off) the court!

Warm regards,
Sandgate and District Youth Tennis Association

Synthetic Grass Court Treatment Complete!

We’re excited to share that an extensive court treatment has just been carried out on our five main synthetic grass courts!

The work was done by industry experts Sportzing and is designed to improve playability and extend the life of our courts. As part of the upgrade, ½ a tonne of sand was added to each of Courts 5, 6, 7, and 8, to restore correct infill depth and improve playing performance..

A big thank you to our local superstar, Alec Reverente, whose win at the AO 1-Point Slam earned Sandgate & District Youth Tennis Association a $5,000 grant from Tennis Australia. We’ve put that funding straight back into improving our courts for everyone to enjoy.

What you’ll notice on court:

  • Smoother, more consistent bounce
  • Better grip and safer movement
  • Courts that dry faster after rain
  • A more comfortable feel underfoot

What was actually done?

Synthetic grass courts have fibres with sand between them. Over time, that sand becomes compacted and uneven, which can make the surface feel slow, patchy or slippery. This treatment:

  • Loosened and decompacted the sand
  • Evened out and topped up sand levels
  • Lifted the fibres and cleared out dirt and debris

Resulting in courts that play better, feel safer, and will last longer!

So come out and play! 🎾

Sandgate Celebrates Alec Reverente’s AO Success!

For those who missed the thrilling AO 1 Point Slam, broadcast live on 14 January 2026 from Rod Laver Arena during the Australian Open, we’re incredibly proud to share that Sandgate Tennis’s very own Alec Reverente competed like a true champion, representing Queensland with pride!

The 1‑Point Slam is a new event with a high-stakes, single-point format featuring 48 players, including top pros like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Nick Kyrgios, and Coco Gauff.  This year’s event was unforgettable, with amateur Jordan Smith from NSW winning – taking out the $1 million prize in front of a hyped crowd!

Alec, who won Sandgate Tennis’s 1‑Point Slam event and the QLD State Final on his way to competing in the Australian Open 1‑Point Slam, was one of the final two amateurs remaining in the national draw.  This qualified him for the play-off for a brand-new Kia EV3, and with nerves of steel, Alec won the car!

Alec’s success also earned Sandgate & District Youth Tennis Association a $5,000 grant from Tennis Australia, which will fund a court treatment for our five main synthetic grass courts and help keep them in tip top condition.

Congratulations, Alec – Sandgate Tennis and your whole community are bursting with pride!

Sandgate Tennis hosts the AO One Point Slam Tournament!

The Sandgate Tennis Inaugural 1 Point Slam

On Sunday 14 December 2025, Sandgate Tennis hosted our very first AO 1 Point Slam tournament!

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who entered the event. It was a pleasure to host the tournament and to watch all those who supported it battle it out on court.

If you’re new to the 1 Point Slam, the best way to describe it is the ultimate leveller – a tournament that’s open to all ages and abilities, where everyone battles it out for a single point: winner moves on, loser is out….until just one player remains! Club champions advance to the State Final, and the top 10 from each State get an all-expenses-paid trip to Melbourne and a chance to take on other amateurs and pros at the Australian Open 1 Point Slam Final for a share of $1 MILLION – plus there’s a brand new Kia for the amateur champ!

The action here at Sandgate Tennis was fast and furious, with its fair share of errors – but I’m sure everyone who played would agree it was incredibly exciting!

Commiserations to those who fell victim to the dreaded double fault. We hope you were able to drown your sorrows and have already begun planning your redemption for next year.

Congratulations to our winner, Alec Reverente, who defeated Mirat Mezensof in the final. Alec will now progress to the Queensland Final of the 1 Point Slam, where he’ll compete for a chance to travel to Melbourne for the Australian Open to play in the National Final.  A very well-deserved win, Alec.

Take a look at some of Sunday’s action!
